About Me:
I have lived and studied in London for 5 years now, and absolutely love it! I love listening to music and really enjoy going to concerts, watching musicals and singing karaoke.

I liked Maths as a kid so knew I wanted to do something mathsy when I grew up, as well as being creative as I was into music and art. Computer Science, specifically studying Artificial Intelligence was where I could combine many of my interests.

My Work:
I’m doing a Ph.D. where I study how to make sure AI systems are fair for everyone, so they don’t show bias or treat people unfairly.

In my research, I’m developing a method to explain how AI systems make decisions, especially in areas like finance or recruitment. This helps ensure that these systems treat individuals fairly by comparing them to others with similar characteristics.

My Typical Day:
I wake up, eat breakfast, and head to the office by 9 am when it’s really quiet. In the morning, I focus on getting work done. After lunch, I have lots of meetings and coffee breaks. In the evening, I might go out for dinner with a friend and, if I’m lucky, catch a show or hang out with friends at my place.

There is no real typical day doing a PhD though, some days there might be a lot to do, other days there won’t be. Often I will be off travelling as well, for a conference, or just to work from somewhere different as I can work remotely a lot of the time.

What I'd do with the prize money:
If chosen as the winner by students, I would use the £500 prize money to run a workshop for secondary school students around how AI Will impact creativity. The workshop would allow students to explore the intersection of AI and creativity in a hands-on and immersive way.

Education:
I went to Sutton High School in Surrey from year 7 onwards. I was lucky to be part of the first Computer Science GCSE and A Level class there which inspired me to carry on with my studies in the subject.
-
Qualifications:
I have GCSEs in the standard Maths, English, Sciences as well as Computer Science, Music, German and French. Then for A Levels I took Maths, Further Maths, Physics and of course, Computer Science. This was followed by my Bachelors studies at King’s College London in – you guessed it – Computer Science.
-
Work History:
I have had lots of part-time jobs while I have been studying. This includes nannying a five year old boy before and after school, running python coding courses for kids, working for a legal business intelligence company and most recently, being a teaching assistant at my University.
-
Current Job:
I’m currently a PhD student at King’s College London in the Safe and Trusted AI Centre for Doctoral Training. I am also taking part in a student scheme at The Alan Turing Institute.
