Carl Peter Robinson answered on 2 Feb 2024:
My biggest influences on the scientific research I’ve done have been as follows:
– The Robotics and AI lecturer on my master’s course: he made the subject really interesting and encouraged me to read around the subject and explore ideas in the practical sessions, as he could see I was enthusiastic about the fields.
– My PhD supervisor: she really pushed me to try my best and liked the fact I brought my organisational and professional skills from my previous job into my scientifc endeavour. She always encouraged me to try things out using experiments or writing some code, to learn by doing, not just by reading.
– My doctoral researcher friend and colleague Yanis: He had such a strong work ethic and his PhD topic was way more theoretical and complex than mine. He used to go to the gym every day and still come to the lab to work many hours. He was also really good at explaining machine learning concepts to me and gave me advice and help on where to find resources. He loved sharing knowledge.
