Great question! Without scientist (and engineers and mathematicians and a whole bunch of other people) AI would never be created.
And as for Earth? I think it would do just fine without scientists 🙂

Carl Peter Robinson answered on 23 Jan 2024:
I think we need science, and scientists, to help fix the problems we have created, which are damaging the earth. Without those scientists, we might not find timely solutions to these problems. In terms of AI, science helps us make further progress for sure, advancing AI tools and methods with new ideas and research. So maybe without science, or the scientific method, AI progress might slow or stagnate. But I’m sure engineers and mathematicians would continue to make a difference to AI, progressing it forward, as they have done already.
