I’m a lecturer in health data science at UCL. My role is to ensure the next generation of data scientists and health professionals have a sound understanding of the technology, opportunities, and challenges of data and AI, to transform the way we deliver care.
Data can be in many forms, including voice recordings, doctor notes, X-ray pictures, addresses, and dates of birth. Combining multiple forms of data will give us a more complete picture of the world.
I also do research to explore the unknown, such as how digital technologies can help patients manage their asthma.

My Typical Day:
I wake up, have breakfast, and then commute on the train to my London office and University by 9am. There, I prepare teaching materials, like lectures and worksheets, attend some meetings, and read some of the latest publications to get new ideas. Having lunch with colleagues at the office is another place to share new ideas. In the afternoon, I give a lecture to 100 students and have interesting discussions with students. I head for the train home at 5pm.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would spend the prize money to develop an interactive and fun AI and share it with schools to get more students interested in AI technology and demystify what it can and cannot do.

University College London (UCL) is a very large university, in fact, we have the second most university students and the most postgraduate students in the UK. We are a research university, meaning many members of staff are trying to expand humankind’s knowledge of the world. There are many notable alumni, including Demis Hassabis (co-founder of Google Deepmind, a leading company in AI technology) and Hannah Fry (mathematician, author, radio and television presenter, and lecturer for the 2019 Royal Institute Christmas Lecture).
