Yes! I think AI (and robotics) will be very useful to extend the independence of people who need help to perform activities of Daily Living in a more autonomous way.

100% there is so much to do in hospitals and care homes. Once we can reliably pass on certain tasks (like monitoring or making informative and accurate doctor notes) to AI, it can free up lots of extra time for humans to care for each other with less time pressure.

It can also be a great companion who doesn’t get tired or weaker over long hours.

Definitely! We’re already seeing smart homes containing multiple sensors that can be used to help with remotely monitoring of vulnerable people while still giving them a sense of autonomy. AI systems can help with analysing that sensor data and help human carers make decisions if an incident occurs.

Additionally, I think AI used in social robotics will play an enormous part in the next decade or two. Imagine integrating improved AI chatbots with great conversation capability into domestic robots that act as social companions to the lonely or elderly. Now imagine that these robots can also perform rudimentary household tasks like certain types of cleaning, lifting and putting things away, and assisting an elderly person with their movement around the house. Japan is already progressing this type of research due to concerns about their ageing population.
