Question: Will robots be as advanced as C-3PO?

It is a very good question and many researchers might have different views on the probability of having a robot as advanced as C-3PO. Existing Robots can do a variety of tasks (cleaning, dancing are two examples) but they are not so good with human interactions and conversations. This is called the lack of social intelligence in machines. However, there is a lot of research in this field currently and we might see a robot with social intelligence in near future.

We have the hardware (robots that can walk, dance, pick up stuff) and we have the software (large language models are more than able to hold a conversation), so it sounds like all we have to do is make these two things interact. Unfortunately, that’s not easy at all, nor it is even clear how to do that…
