AI is not good if it is used in a bad way. AI is a tool that can help us do many things, but it can also harm us if it is used for evil purposes.

For example, some people might use AI to create fake videos or spread lies on the internet. This can hurt other people’s feelings or make them believe things that are not true.

AI should always respect human values and rights, and follow some rules that make sure it does not harm anyone.

AI is good if it is used in a good way, but bad if it is used in a bad way!

AI like any tool is neither good nor bad intrinsically.

Like a hammer, if you use it to make a cupboard for your mum that’s good, but you can equally use it to hit your sibling and that’s bad.

The hammer isn’t good or bad, the person using it made a good or bad decision the same can be said of ai.

You could fine tune a large language model (like chat gpt) to help you learn to code (good) but equally train it to write misinformation that you share to twitter (bad)

Almost any scientific or technological tool can lead to good or bad consequences depending on how it is used. AI systems have been used to improve performance in different applications and to improve our quality of life. At the same time, there is evidence to show that AI systems can add to existing bias and inequalities in our society. This indicates that we need to put proper processes in place to make sure that current and future AI systems are developed and used appropriately.

Think about the AI systems we have these days as tools, not living entities that can make decisions based on their own ethics, morals, and feelings – we’ve not reached anywhere near that level of AI. In that sense, AI is neither good nor bad, it is merely a tool weilded by a human being, or group of human beings, for their specific purpose. It is the intent of that purpose that defines a good or bad outcome.

It all depends on how we humans use these AI tools. I like Demetris’ example of a hammer: it’s a tool that can be used in a bad way, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good tool, because it can be used in many good ways too. So you can apply that logic to AI tools: just because someone might use an AI tool to do something bad, deliberately or accidentally, it doesn’t mean AI tools can’t be called good, because they can be used for many good applications too.
